Perito Moreno Glacier is one of the most recognizable ice formations in Argentina, located within Los Glaciares National Park in Santa Cruz Province. The glacier extends into the southern arm of Lago Argentino and is notable for its broad ice front, which can be viewed from a network of walkways and observation platforms. Its proximity to El Calafate makes it one of the more accessible major glaciers in Patagonia. Unlike many retreating glaciers, Perito Moreno has maintained a relatively stable position over long periods, with its advancing and calving processes creating a constantly changing landscape.

The glacier forms part of Los Glaciares National Park, a protected area that preserves important natural and cultural landscapes of southern Patagonia. The park is recognized for its glacial systems, Andean forests, lakes, and mountain environments. Perito Moreno has become closely associated with glaciological research because of its distinctive balance between ice accumulation and movement. Large blocks periodically break away from the glacier's front and fall into the surrounding water, producing a loud crack and sending waves across the lake. These calving events are a natural part of the glacier's ongoing movement.

The glacier can be experienced from several viewpoints along a more than 4.5-kilometer network of walkways that passes through Patagonian forest and leads toward the ice front. Different routes provide views from several elevations and angles, while boat excursions allow visitors to approach the glacier from Lago Argentino. Guided ice trekking is also available, using specialized equipment and trained mountain guides. The surrounding park protects lenga and southern beech forests, grasslands, lakes, and rivers, as well as wildlife such as Andean condors, foxes, pumas, and the endangered huemul deer.

The nearest major visitor center is El Calafate, where restaurants and hotels provide access to Patagonian cuisine before or after excursions to the glacier. Regional dishes commonly feature lamb, trout, beef, berries, and locally produced cheeses, while calafate berry products are a distinctive feature of the area. Visitors can also sample Argentine wines and traditional desserts made with regional fruit. The glacier itself has no permanent food service at its viewing area, so most meals are arranged in El Calafate or through organized excursions. The combination of accessible viewpoints, boat trips, and guided glacier walks makes Perito Moreno an important destination within Patagonia.
